How to check GLP-1 coverage with Cigna
Process guidance only — this page does not say whether Cigna covers Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound on your plan.
Cigna Healthcare pharmacy benefits are often administered with Evernorth / Express Scripts, but coverage still depends on your specific employer, marketplace, or Medicare contract.
Formularies differ by employer, state, Medicare vs. commercial, and PBM carve-out. The only reliable answer is the number on your ID card plus a written prior-auth decision.
Full 5-step checklist →Who to call
| What it is | Number | Source / caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Member services (use this first) | The number on your ID card | If the card number differs from the public lines below, use the card — it is tied to your plan. |
| Medical, pharmacy, and coverage questions | 1-800-244-6224 (1-800-Cigna24) | Published on Cigna’s Contact Us page for medical/dental/vision coverage and claims, 24 hours a day. Cigna’s clinician resources also list this number for pharmacy prior-authorization questions. |
| Cigna Home Delivery Pharmacy | 1-800-835-3784 | Published on Cigna’s Contact Us page for home-delivery pharmacy questions. |
| Verbal prior authorization if electronic submission is unavailable (clinician) | 1-800-882-4462 (1-800-88-CIGNA) | From Cigna’s commercial drug prior-authorization instructions for health-care professionals. Members should still start with the card number. |

How prior authorization usually works here
- Call the number on your ID card or 1-800-244-6224 and ask them to open your formulary, not a generic Cigna drug list.
- Cigna asks clinicians to submit pharmacy prior authorization electronically through CoverMyMeds (CoverMyMeds.com/epa/Cigna) or Surescripts in the EHR. Your job is to make sure the clinic has your member ID and the diagnosis they should submit.
- Ask whether the drug is covered for your diagnosis, the tier, and whether quantity limits apply (many GLP-1s are limited to a 28-day supply).
- If electronic prior auth is not available, Cigna’s clinician instructions say offices can call 1-800-882-4462 for a verbal request rather than relying on a member-submitted fax.
- If denied, ask for the denial reason and appeal instructions. Manufacturer savings cards (Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly) are a separate path for some commercially insured patients — ask whether your plan is eligible before assuming cash-pay.
What to ask on the call
- Is [drug name] on my Cigna formulary for [diagnosis], and at what tier?
- Does my plan require prior authorization, step therapy, or a quantity limit?
- Should my clinician submit through CoverMyMeds / Surescripts, and what clinical notes do you need?
- What is my cost at a network pharmacy vs. Cigna Home Delivery?
- If denied, what is the appeal process and timeline?

Manufacturer savings programs and cash-pay telehealth are the usual next step — they still depend on your situation, not on this page.
See Cash-Pay Options →Phone numbers and portal names are taken from Cigna's public contact pages linked above. They change, and they are not a substitute for the number printed on your ID card. This page does not make coverage claims for any GLP-1 medication.
