Coverage varies. Humana says Medicare Part D does not cover weight loss medications when used only for weight loss, but drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy may be covered by Part D if prescribed for diabetes management or cardiovascular disease. Separately, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge (July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027) covers Wegovy (injection and tablets) for weight loss at a $50 copayment per 30-day supply for people enrolled in a standalone Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage. Humana says the doctor must submit a prior authorization request and the prescription to a CMS central processor, and the patient needs an obesity diagnosis and a documented medical need.
Applies to: Medicare Part D (PDP and MAPD). Weight loss alone excluded by statute; CV risk reduction allowed; temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge for obesity
